THE ENCULTURATED WHITE MAN: If the Indians Had Won

If the Indians Had Won cover

THE ENCULTURATED WHITE MAN: If the Indians
Had Won
is a body of work produced exclusively by
Tamara Ann Burgh over a period of some 10 years.
The work consists of turn-of-the-twentieth century found B&W photographs of Europeans she has altered
with color pencil to present hybridized European Americans who embraced the Indian culture rather
than attempt to destroy it.

The photographs are matted with a variety of needlework -- as if constructed by enlightened Victorian Caucasian women in their parlors. The needlework is constructed
from natural fibers (cotton, silk, linen) with added decorative elements.

All of the work is complete but for the framing which Tamara refers to as shrines.
